PETERS' DAY LITURGICALLY CELEBRATED IN THE KOTOR CHURCHES OF ST. NICHOLAS, ST. LUKE AND ST. PETER OF CETINJE

With the communion of numerous believers in the Kotor Church of St. Nicholas, today the liturgical celebration of Peter's Day (St. Apostles Peter and Paul) was held.

The hierarchal governor of Kotor - Tivat, the parish priest of Kotor, the archpriest - the strove for the church, Nemanja Krivokapić, emphasized that, after God founded the Church, the apostles were the ones who continued His work.

"The apostles therefore have a very important place in our Church because they carried the word of God throughout the entire universe. The Church is called apostolic because of them. When we read the Creed, and we read it at every liturgy, when we talk about the Church, we say that the Church is one, holy, catholic and apostolic. So one of the four most important characteristics of the Church is that it is apostolic, because they are the ones who carried on, who made sure that what God left for us truly lives on to this day. That is why all the holy apostles are important. They all preached and suffered martyrdom in their own way, as best they could, but Saint Peter and Saint Paul stood out the most among them," said Father Nemanja.
As he said, they are equal to the other apostles, but they stood out the most with their deeds.
“The Apostle Peter, even while Christ was on earth, always stood out, the first to do and say everything, and we hear in today's Gospel that it was he who confessed the most important faith that Christ is the Son of God,” said Fr. Nemanja, recalling St. Peter's answer to Jesus, namely the words: “You are the Son of the living God,” after His question to the apostles, “Who do you say that I am?”

That is not only the correct answer but also the essence of our faith, continued Fr. Nemanja, also saying that Christ is not just someone who talks nicely, but is the true God, the One who came for our salvation.

“Peter confessed that on behalf of all the other apostles and all of us people who come to the Church and believe that Christ is the Son of the living God,” said Fr. Nemanja.

The Apostle Paul, he emphasizes, although he was not among the first twelve chosen by Christ himself, later joined them and with his work compensated, even surpassed some of the apostles with his work, missionary journeys…

“There are 14 epistles of the Apostle Paul, which we still read at every Liturgy today. These are the written words that God gave us. He gave them through the Gospels, through the Acts of the Apostles and the Epistles, because this is what the apostles themselves did after Christ. That is why we especially respect the apostles, we especially glorify them. May the Lord grant that we too may be strengthened in the faith that the apostles left us, in the prayers of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul and all the holy apostles, amen,” said, among other things, Fr. Nemanja.

With Fr. Nemanja Krivokapić, the Holy Liturgy in the Church of St. Nicholas was served by Archpriest Nenad Kalem and Priest Borisa Sanic (director of the Student Dormitory at the Faculty of Theology).

Holy liturgies were also served today in the churches of St. Luke in the Old Town and St. Peter of Cetinje in Prcanj.
