
President Milatović and Metropolitan Joanikije: Improving relations between the state and religious communities
The President of Montenegro, Jakov Milatović, received today, March 12, Metropolitan Joanikije of Montenegro and the Littoral.
As reported by the Public Relations Office of the President of Montenegro, during a meaningful and cordial conversation, President Milatović expressed his appreciation for the historical role of the Metropolis of Montenegro and the Littoral and the episcopal service of Metropolitan Joanikije.
“The President recalled that during this period of the year, the three largest religious communities in Montenegro celebrate major religious holidays and, in this regard, thanked the Metropolitan for his contribution to fostering interfaith harmony in Montenegro,” the statement said.
Metropolitan Joanikije expressed his satisfaction with today's meeting and informed President Milatović about the most important activities of the Metropolis.
President Milatović and Metropolitan Joanikije pointed out the exceptionally important spiritual mission of the Metropolis of Montenegro and the Littoral, as well as the Diocese of Budimlje-Nikšić, the Diocese of Zahumlje-Herzegovina and the Diocese of Milesevo, especially in the context of realizing the constitutionally established freedom of religion of Orthodox believers in our country.
The interlocutors also noted that relations between the state and all religious communities in Montenegro should be further improved, in the spirit of mutual respect and understanding.
