In the Church of St. Vasilije Ostroski in Dobrota, today on Sunday of the Adoration of the Cross, the Holy Liturgy was served by Archpriest-stavrophor Milenko Jekić.
Today, when Christ, as it says in the Holy Gospel, calls everyone who wants to follow Him, to deny themselves and take up their cross, Fr. Milenko said: “May the Lord God hear your prayers, give you everything that is good, useful and every blessing.”
The third Sunday of Holy Lent is dedicated to the celebration and glorification of the Honorable and Life-giving Cross of the Lord. During the Lenten journey of fasting and asceticism, we need support and consolation so that we do not give up. This support, consolation and strength in the middle of the Holy Forty Days is given to us by the power of the Honorable and Life-giving Cross of the Lord..
We remind you that in the annual cycle of worship, the celebration and glorification of the Honorable Cross is represented in four feasts: 1. The Feast of the Exaltation of the Honorable and Life-giving Cross of the Lord (September 14/27), is one of the great feasts of the Lord, when we prayerfully remember the finding of the Honorable Cross and the return of the Honorable Cross from Persia to Jerusalem. 2. The Day of the Cross on the eve of the feast of the Enlightenment - Epiphany, which in the first centuries was the last day of preparation for catechumens to receive Holy Baptism on the feast of the Epiphany. 3. The third Sunday of Holy Lent, which we call the Sunday of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross because of the veneration of the Holy Cross when it is brought to the middle of the church in order to strengthen ourselves spiritually during the period of spiritual and physical asceticism and fasting. 4. The Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross (August 1/14), which is the youngest holiday dedicated to the Holy Cross.
