THE SUCCESS OF THE HOLY MOTHER OF GOD LITURGICALLY CELEBRATED IN THE KOTOR CHURCH OF ST. NICHOLAS
In the Church of Saint Nicholas in the Old Town of Kotor, one of the greatest feasts of our Church - the Dormition of the Blessed Virgin Mary - was liturgically celebrated.
At the Holy Liturgy, which was served by the archpriest vicar of Kotor-Tivat, parish priest of Kotor, archpriest Nemanja Krivokapić with the clergy, many believers received communion.
The holiday was preceded by the Dormition fast, which began on August 14, during which every evening in the Church of St. Nicholas is praying to the Blessed Virgin Mary, concluding with the evening service at 9 pm.
After the Crucifixion of the Lord, the Holy Mother of God continued to live with Saint John the Theologian. She spent most of the time until her death in Jerusalem. In her old age, she often prayed to the Lord at the place of the Ascension to take her as soon as possible. The archangel Gabriel appeared to her and told her that she would rest in three days. She wished to see all the apostles and they all miraculously gathered, except for the apostle Thomas. Then she rested peacefully, without any pain. The apostles buried her in the tomb of Saints Joachim and Anna, in the Garden of Gethsemane. On the third day, the apostle Thomas also arrives. When they opened the grave to heal the body of the Most Holy, there was nothing inside, only shrouds. It is assumed that the Blessed Virgin Mary lived for more than 60 years.
