Calendar for September 9 Venerable Pimen the Great
Native Egyptian. Even as a boy, he visited famous clergymen. Once he begged the old man Paul to take him to Saint Paisius. Seeing him, Saint Paisius said to Paul: "This child will save many, the hand of God is with him." When Pimen became a monk, two of his brothers also followed his path. In the monastery of these three brothers, which was managed by the eldest brother Abba Anubija, this type was valid: at night they spent 4 hours in needlework, 4 in sleep and 4 in psalm singing. From morning to noon they spent time alternately in work and prayer, from noon to evening in reading, and then they prepared dinner for themselves, the only meal in 24 hours, usually some vegetables. Saint Pimen practiced asceticism in the 5th century and died in old age.
Venerable Pimen of Palestine. Saint Hosea, Bishop of Cordova. Priest Martyr Kuksha and Pimen Postnik.
