With the blessing of His Holiness, Patriarch of Serbia, Mr. Porfirije, and at the invitation of the Metropolitanate of Montenegro and the Littoral and organized by the Serbian Orthodox Church Communities of Kotor and Tivat, a series of missionary lectures is being organized in the Bay of Kotor this year as well. The lecturer is the head of the Missionary Department of the AEM, presbyter Dr. Oliver Subotić.
The first lecture is scheduled for Monday, July 27 at 9:30 PM in the portico of the Church of St. Nicholas in Kotor, on the topic "The Story of Tesla's Ancestors: On the Importance of the Parental Home in the Life of Nikola Tesla". The lecture was organized on the occasion of the 170th anniversary of the birth of the greatest Serbian inventor, and was conceived based on the research that the lecturer published in his study Tesla: A Spiritual Figure. Some of the lecture topics are: how did the immediate family environment influence Nikola Tesla, what qualities did the brilliant inventor inherit from his Orthodox Christian family environment, how significant was the family influence when it came to his interest in science, how did that environment help him in difficult life situations, and what conclusions can modern parents draw from all of this. The second lecture is scheduled for Tuesday, July 28 at 9:00 PM in the parish hall at the Church of Saint Sava in Tivat, on the topic: "Facing the Challenge of Artificial Intelligence: A View from an Orthodox Perspective". The lecture is based on research published by the lecturer in the book Digital Rubicon, in which the phenomenon of artificial intelligence is viewed from an information technology, ethical, sociological, legal, political and, of course, theological perspective. The lecture is planned to discuss the main challenges facing us when it comes to the impact of so-called artificial intelligence, how this phenomenon is rapidly changing the way we live, work, and educate... but also interpersonal relationships, the perception of humans, and the fundamental role of machines in our lives, and how Orthodox theology can provide its response in contributing to solving the problem that is largely ahead of us. The final, third lecture in this series is planned to be held on Wednesday, July 29 at 9:30 PM in the portico of the Church of St. Nicholas in Kotor, on the topic: "The Importance of the Parental Role in the Age of Ecranocracy." The lecture is based on two decades of research into the impact of modern information and communication technologies on human life and society, which is collected in the books Man and Technology, Church and Globalization, Information-Controlled Society and Digital Challenge, which the lecturer published in the given period. The lecture will discuss what ecranocracy is, how a person becomes a subject of the screen in the information age, how to teach parents to gain inner freedom and sovereignty over the technology that so often enslaves people in our time, and, most importantly, how to pass on the acquired good habits towards technology to our children.
