Due to the great beneficence, which he obtained through long exploits, this Georgije was elected and appointed as the Metropolitan of Mytilene. And the saint managed the herd of letters zealously and wisely until his old age. But when the persecution began under Leo the Armenian, who was denying the holy icons, this holy old man would also be invited by the emperor to Constantinople for a council of bishops, who were supposed, according to the emperor's wish, to destroy the veneration of icons. But Georgije not only did not do as the evil emperor wished, but, together with some other brave bishops, stood up to protect the holy icons. For that, he was mocked and exiled by the emperor to the regions of Kherson, where he spent the rest of his earthly life in physical misery and every kind of trouble. He died and moved to immortal life around 816. He would be a miracle worker both during his life and after his death because of his great righteousness and love for the Lord Jesus.
