Calendar for March 25 Venerable Simeon the New Theologian
Born in Galata, Paphlagonia, and raised in Constantinople, where he was included in the court of Emperors Basil and Constantine Porphyrogenitus. For the sake of Christ, he left all worldly glory and withdrew to a monastery. He practiced asceticism under the spiritual guidance of Elder Simeon, then he was abbot of the Monastery of St. Mamant, and, finally, a hermit. He is considered the greatest theologian after St. Gregory the Theologian. He felt God's grace in his heart. His words were true spiritual and theological revelations. On the day of his repose, he partook of the pure Holy Mysteries of Christ, ordered his disciples to sing funeral hymns, prayed briefly, and - left his body. He gave up his soul to the Lord in 1032. His relics are incorruptible and miraculous.
