Calendar for April 3 - Venerable Jacob the Confessor
This saint, having loved the ascetic life since his youth, became a monk. He purified his soul by fasting, vigil and prayer. He put a lot of effort into studying the holy books. Having thus purified his heart and soul through great exploits and efforts, he became worthy of the episcopal rank. During the time of Emperor Constantine Kopronimos, the most zealous iconoclast, the iconoclasts forced him to renounce the prayerful veneration of holy icons, but he did not want to agree. That is why he suffered from them great torments, persecutions, imprisonments, hunger, thirst and other evils. In those torments and angry sufferings, he surrendered his soul to the Lord God, for whose sake he strove until death and from whom he received the Kingdom of Heaven to rejoice eternally. He lived and died in the 8th century.
Venerable Cyril, Bishop of Catania. Saint Thomas, Patriarch of Constantinople. Venerable Serapion. Easter fast.
