Calendar for August 11 - Holy Martyr Kalinik
A native of Cilicia. Brought up in the Christian spirit from childhood, when he grew up he left everything and went to preach the Gospel. In Ankyra, he was captured by the heathen prince Sacerdon, who, after a great deal of torture, put him in iron shoes with nails inside and ordered him to be driven to the city of Gangru. He was not allowed to torture him anymore or to execute him in Ankyra, because seeing Kalinik's sufferings and steadfastness, many converted to the faith of Christ. Along the way, the soldiers became thirsty, but there was no water anywhere. Saint Kalinik prayed to God and drew water from a stone. In Gangra, they threw him into a red-hot furnace. When the fire died down, they found his body lifeless, but unharmed by the fire. St. Kalinik died for Christ around 250.
Holy Martyr Seraphim. Holy Martyr Theodotia. Holy Martyr Eustathius of Mchetsky. Martyr Luka Crmnički.
