Calendar for August 16 Saints Isaac, Dalmatus and Faustus
Dalmatus was an officer under Emperor Theodosius the Great, and was held in great honor by him. But love for Christ awakened in him, and he abandoned everything worldly, leaving his rank. He took his only son Faustus and went to the suburbs of Constantinople, to the monastery of Saint Isaac, where they both became monks. Before his repose, Saint Isaac (who is celebrated separately, on June 12) left Dalmatus as abbot in his place. Later, that monastery was called Dalmatian. Saint Dalmatus devoted himself to asceticism, fasting for 40 days, and thus defeated the demonic force. He participated in the Third Ecumenical Council. He peacefully gave up his soul to the Lord in the 5th century. His son Faustus imitated his father in everything, and peacefully reposed in the Dalmatian monastery.
