Calendar for March 6 Saint Eustathius
He was the Archbishop of Antioch. As a great restorer and protector of the Orthodox faith, he particularly distinguished himself at the First Ecumenical Council, where he very learnedly and reasonably refuted the teachings of Arius. With the other holy fathers, he correctly confessed that Jesus Christ, as the Son of God, is equal in essence to the Father and the Holy Spirit. When, after the death of Emperor Constantine, the Arians became stronger again, they bribed a prostitute to say publicly that she had become pregnant by Archbishop Eustathius, and they deposed him from his bishopric and exiled him first to Thrace, and then to Macedonia. He suffered much and for a long time, until he reposed in the Lord, in the year 345. And the woman became seriously ill and confessed that she had received gold to slander a righteous man.
Saint Zacharias, Patriarch of Jerusalem. Venerable Timothy. Saint John III Scholasticus, Patriarch of Constantinople.
