Calendar for August 20 - Venerable Martyr Dometius
He was born in Persia as a heathen, during the time of Emperor Constantine. He learned the teachings of Christ in his youth when he was baptized. Soon he went to a monastery near the city of Nisivea and became a monk. He lived in the brotherhood for a while, and then he moved away to bezmolvije, with Archimandrite Nurvel, who is said to have eaten nothing cooked for 60 years. Elder Nurval made him a deacon, and when he wanted to ordain him as a priest, he fled to the desert and settled in a cave. He received the gift of healing from God. When Julian the Apostate came to those parts, he heard about this ascetic and sent men who, together with two of his disciples, walled him up alive in a cave. Saint Dometius ended his earthly life in 363.
