Calendar for August 29 Saint Raphael of Banat
A native Serb. He practiced asceticism in the Hilandar Monastery. At that time, this monastery had several metokhs in Serbian lands, including one in the area of today's Zrenjanin. To this metokh, according to some monastic obedience, the brotherhood of Hilandar sent hieromonk Raphael. There, Saint Raphael continued to live a strict ascetic life, not only in performing the monastic obedience imposed on him, but also in all the God-pleasing feats of monastic life, especially in the feat of prayer and fasting. He lived in a small hut made of ordinary reeds, in which he peacefully surrendered to the Lord. His relics were shown to be miraculous, which is why many people come to his grave. Saint Raphael of Banat lived in the 16th and 17th centuries.
