As a boy, his parents sent him to study icon painting at the Caves Monastery with Greek icon painters. He witnessed a miracle when the icon of the Most Holy Theotokos was painted on its own in the altar of this church, when a dove flew out of the mouth of the Theotokos and, after a long flight around the church, flew into the mouth of the icon of the Lord Jesus Christ. Having completely surrendered to God, Saint Alimpiy painted icons all day long and never took money for a single one. He was soon ordained a hieromonk. While still alive, he performed miracles: he healed a leper and a man blind from birth. Through him, in order to save him from human malice, the Lord manifested the miracle of self-painting of icons. These icons remained undamaged when the church in which they were located burned down. He reposed in 1114.
