Calendar for December 1 Saint Martyr Plato
From Ancyra in Galatia, born into a Christian family and raised in the Christian spirit. He publicly confessed and preached Christ and denounced idolatry. For this reason, he was brought to trial before the prefect Agrippina. When the prefect, after putting him to torture, began to advise him to worship idols and save his life, Saint Plato replied: “There are two deaths, one temporary and the other eternal; so there are two lives, one short-lived and the other infinite.” Then Agrippa ordered that red-hot iron balls be placed on his naked body, and that his skin be torn off in straps. Then they threw him into prison, where he spent 18 days without food and water. He surrendered his soul to the Lord Jesus Christ around the year 266, when they beheaded him with a sword.
