Calendar for December 13 Saint Andrew the First-Called
Son of Jonah and brother of the Apostle Peter, born in Bethsaida. At first he was a disciple of Saint John the Baptist, and when John pointed to the Lord Jesus Christ and said: “Behold, the Lamb of God” (John 1:36), he followed Jesus. Then he brought his brother Peter to the Lord. Having received the Holy Spirit, he preached the Gospel in Byzantium, Thrace, then in the countries around the Danube, then in Russia and around the Black Sea, and finally in Epirus, Greece and the Peloponnese, where he suffered. In Patras, he converted the brother and sister of the imperial governor Aegeatus to Christ. For this, Aegeatus put him to torture and crucified him on the cross. On the cross, an unusual light shone on him for about half an hour, and when it disappeared, the Apostle breathed his last. Saint Andrew the Apostle suffered for Christ in the year 62.
Saint Frumentius, Enlightener of Abyssinia. Christmas Fast.
