A native of the village of Vitaharam, in the Shechem region. He lived in 900 BC at the court of the Israeli king Ahab, where he was a housekeeper. When the king departed from the reverence of God and turned to idolatry, Obadiah did not follow his example. And when the evil queen Jezebel, because of the Holy Prophet Elijah, raised a persecution against all the prophets of God, Obadiah gathered a hundred of them, hid them in two caves where he fed them. Obadiah was a contemporary of the great prophet Elijah, whom he greatly respected and listened to, and followed in everything, as his disciple. He left a book of prophecies and in it a messianic prophecy: about salvation from Zion and about the kingdom of the Lord, that is, about the New Testament Church. He rested peacefully. He was buried in Samaria.
