Calendar for December 21 Venerable Patapios
He was born in Thebes, Egypt, to Christian parents. In his early youth, he withdrew to the Egyptian desert. When word spread, people began to come to him seeking comfort. Frightened by human fame, Patapios fled from the desert to Constantinople. He thought that it would be easier to hide from people in the city bustle. He built himself a hut near the Blachernae church. But light cannot be hidden. A boy, blind from birth, led by the Providence of God, came to Patapios and asked him to pray to God that he might see. The saint took pity on him, prayed to God, and he received his sight. This miracle was heard throughout the capital, and people flocked to him. And through Saint Patapios many miracles of God were manifested. He reposed in the Lord in a ripe old age, in the 7th century.
Holy Apostles Sosthenes, Apollos, Tychicus, Epaphroditus, Onesiphorus, Cephas, and Caesar. Holy Martyrs of Africa. Theophilus, Bishop of Antioch. Christmas Fast.
