Calendar for December 25 Venerable Spyridon the Wonderworker, Bishop of Trimythun
Born in Cyprus. He married in his youth and had children. When his wife died, he devoted himself to serving God. Because of his special piety, he was elected bishop of the city of Trimythun in Cyprus. But even as a bishop, he did not change his way of life: he cultivated the land and worked hard on his livestock. He spent very little on himself and distributed most of his earnings to the poor. God endowed him with great power: he resurrected several dead people, healed Emperor Constans from a serious illness, foresaw the future, looked into and listened to angels... At the First Ecumenical Council, with his simple but clear confession of faith and miracles, he returned many heretics to Orthodoxy. He reposed in the Lord in 348. His miraculous relics are in Corfu.
Hieromartyr Alexander, Bishop of Jerusalem. Holy Martyr Synetos (the Wise). Theophilus, Bishop of Antioch. Christmas Fast.
