Calendar for February 16 Saint Simeon and Anna
When Simeon, as one of the Seventy, translated the prophet Isaiah from Hebrew to Greek and came to: “Behold, a virgin shall conceive and bear a son,” he took a knife to erase the word “virgin” and replaced it with “young woman.” Then an angel appeared to him and explained to him that the prophecy was true, which he would be convinced of himself because he would not die until he saw the Messiah born of a Virgin. When the Virgin Mary brought the Infant Jesus to the temple in Jerusalem, Simeon came and said: “Now you are dismissing your servant, Lord, according to your word, in peace, for my eyes have seen your salvation” (Luke 2:29-30). He soon reposed. Saint Simeon is the protector of little children. There was also the prophetess Anna, an old woman of 84 years, who also recognized the Messiah and announced him to the people.
Holy Martyrs Adrian and Evula. Saint James, Archbishop of Serbia.
