Calendar for February 20 Saint Parthenius of Lampsacus
He was born in Melitopol. His father was a deacon. Even as a child, he tried to fulfill the Gospel words. When he grew up, he settled by a lake where he caught fish and distributed it to the poor. When, by God's providence, he was chosen as Bishop of Lampsacus, he closed the idolatrous temples, cleansed the city of pagans and built many churches. He healed the sick, especially those who were in the power of evil spirits. Once, when he was casting out an evil debt from a mentally ill man, the spirit asked him not to cast it out. "I will give you another man into whom you can move," Parthenius said to him. "Who is that," the spirit asked him. "I am that." Hearing this, the spirit fled as if scalded. Saint Parthenius lived a long life. He died in the 4th century.
