Calendar for February 26 Saint Simeon
Stefan Nemanja, a great Serbian ruler, unifier, achieved independence of the Serbian state, defender of Orthodoxy and exterminator of heresy. When he established the state and Orthodoxy in it, he followed in the footsteps of his son Sava and became a monk. It was in Studenica in 1195. During his monasticism, he was given the name Simeon. After two years, he went to Mount Athos, to the Vatopedi monastery, where, praying constantly to God, he built six chapels. Then the father and son bought the ruins of the Hilandar monastery and renovated it. Saint Simeon lived there for only eight months. The great, powerful ruler rested on a simple mat. Giving up his spirit to the Lord, he spoke: "Let everything that breathes praise the Lord." He died in 1200.
Venerable Martinian. Saints Zoe and Photinia.
