Calendar for February 27 Venerable Maron the Syrian
Falling in love with the hermit's way of life, Saint Maron went to the top of Mount Cyrene in Antioch, where there was an old pagan temple. He dedicated that place to God the Life-Giver and settled there, under a small shelter, enduring both heat and frost for years. There he practiced asceticism in a constant struggle with demons. And God poured out great grace upon him. Saint Maron, having resisted all demonic temptations at their former meeting place, later founded several monasteries and hermitages in which he brought a large number of souls to God. Having acquired the gift of healing, he gave each sufferer according to his measure, always adhering to one remedy: prayer to God. After a short illness, he gave up his soul to the Lord. He lived in the 4th century. Venerable Auxentius.
Saint Cyril of Slavonia. Venerable Isaac, the Prisoner of the Caves.
