Calendar for February 6 Venerable Xenia of Rome
She was born in Rome as the daughter of a famous senator. When her parents wanted to marry her off, she ran away with two slaves to Milas, on the island of Koa, where she founded a virgin family. There, she labored until her death. Although weak in body, she had a man's endurance in fasting, vigil and prayer. She often stood praying for the whole night. She was dressed more poorly than all the sisters in the family. She often sprinkled ashes from the censer on the bread she ate. She died in 450. At the moment when she surrendered her soul to God, a wonderful sign appeared over the virgin monastery: a wreath of stars with a cross in the middle. The relics of Saint Xenia are famous. Her slaves followed her in everything. According to her wish, they were buried at her feet.
