Calendar for January 4 Saint Great Martyr Anastasia
She was born in Rome, in a senatorial and wealthy home, to a pagan father and a Christian mother. Her father forced her to marry the pagan Publius, who tortured her because she did not want to have sexual relations with him, but he soon died. She secretly went to Christian martyrs in prisons, first in Rome, and then in Macedonia, distributing her wealth to the poor. In Macedonia, she was discovered to be a Christian. The chief priest Ulpian lustfully attacked her, but suddenly went blind. She survived 30 days in prison without food, then she, with other Christians, was put in a ship that the soldiers overturned on the deep. Finally, she was executed in 304 by being tied hand and foot to four stakes over a fire.
