Calendar for January 8 The Council of the Most Holy Theotokos
"On the second day of Christmas, the Christian Church gives glory and praise to the Most Holy Theotokos, who gave birth to the Lord and God and our Savior Jesus Christ. This celebration is called the Council of Her because on that day all the faithful gather to glorify Her, the Mother of the Theotokos, and because a solemn, conciliar service is served in Her honor. The Most Holy Theotokos Mary, by giving birth to the Lord Jesus Christ from Her, served most of all for our salvation and the salvation of the entire world and all creation. Therefore, it is fitting, proper, and worthy to celebrate Her especially always, and especially immediately the day after the birth of Christ, as the Mother of the Theotokos of Christ our God and Savior." (Archimandrite Dr. Justin Popovic, “Lives of the Saints for December”, “December 26”, p. 745, Belgrade, 1988.)
