Calendar for July 10 - Reverend Sampson
He was born to rich and famous parents in Rome, where he studied all the sciences of that time and devoted himself to medicine. Then he moved to Constantinople and settled in a small house from which he radiated alms, comfort, hope and every help, spiritual and physical. Seeing this, the patriarch ordained him as a priest. When Emperor Justinian the Great fell ill, all the doctors told him that the disease was incurable, but he prayed fervently to God and it was revealed to him in a dream that Sampson would cure him. And so it would be, as soon as old Sampson puts his hand on the painful spot, the disease disappears. The emperor offered him a great treasure, but Sampson only agreed to build him a house for the poor, whom he served as a parent to the children. He passed away peacefully in 530.
Saint Severus Presbyter. Saint Joan the Myrrh-bearing. St. Peter's Day fast.
