Calendar for July 14 - Holy Martyrs and Silverless Cosmas and Damian
Born brothers, born in Rome. They were baptized as children and brought up in the Christian spirit. They had a great grace from God to heal people and animals from every disease, usually by the laying on of hands. They did not ask for rewards for their efforts, they only required the patient to believe in the Lord Christ. They inherited a large estate, but distributed it to the poor. The holy brothers were brought in chains by the persecutors of the Christians to Emperor Karinus, who ordered them to renounce Christ and offer sacrifices to idols. But the brothers miraculously healed the emperor himself, and he declared his faith in Christ and dismissed them. Envious of their fame, a doctor, their former teacher, under the pretext of picking medicinal herbs, took them to the mountain and stoned them to death in 284.
Venerable Petar Patricije. Holy Martyr Potitus.
