Calendar for July 15 Laying down the robe of the Most Holy Theotokos
During the reign of Emperor Leo the Great, Empress Verina, and Patriarch Gennady, the Constantinople nobles Galvius and Candide traveled to the Holy Land to venerate the relics. In Nazareth, they stayed in the house of a Jewish woman, a virgin, who kept the robe of the Most Holy Theotokos in a secret chamber. By touching this robe, many sick people were healed. Galvius and Candide took this relic and brought it to Constantinople. When they announced this to Patriarch Gennady, there was immense joy in the imperial city. The robe was then solemnly transferred and placed in the church of Blachernae, built by Emperor Marcian on the shores of the Blachernae Gulf, which was named after a Scythian duke Blachernae who died there. In memory of this event, this feast was established.
Saint Juvenalius, Patriarch of Jerusalem. Saint Photius, Metropolitan of Moscow.
