Calendar for July 16 - Holy Martyr Jacintus
A young man, a courtier of Emperor Trajan and a secret Christian. Once when the emperor, with all the courtiers, was offering sacrifices to the idols, Jacintus did not appear at the ceremony. That is why he was brought to court before the emperor, who advised him to renounce Christ and offer sacrifices to idols. The torturers, after beating, spitting and scraping him, finally threw him into a dungeon. The emperor ordered that nothing be given to him to eat, except idol sacrifices. Jacinto did not want to eat it and after eight days he rested in the Lord. The jailers saw two angels in Jacinto's dungeon: one covered the body of the young martyr with his bright clothes, and the other placed a beautiful wreath on his head. Saint Jacinto surrendered his soul to the Lord in the year 108.
Saint Anatoly, Patriarch of Constantinople. Venerable Alexander. Venerable Isaiah the Hermit.
