Calendar for July 20 Holy Martyr Sunday
Her old, rich and pious, but childless parents Dorotheus and Eusebius, who lived in Anatolia during the reign of Emperors Diocletian and Maximian, begged God for her. From childhood she dedicated herself to the Lord. When she grew up into a beautiful girl, many suitors sought her out, but she refused them all. One of them accused her and her parents to Diocletian of being Christians. Dorotheus and Eusebius died in torment in Melitina, and on Holy Sunday Diocletian sent Maximian to court. First they whipped her with ox sinews, then they threw her into the fire, then to beasts, but the Lord delivered her. In the end, she was sentenced to be beheaded, but she gave up her soul to the Lord before the sword fell on her neck. She suffered in 289 in Nicomedia.
