Calendar for July 22 His Homilist Pancratius
Born in Antioch during the time when the Lord walked the earth. His parents came with him to Jerusalem to see the miracles of Jesus and there they met the Apostle Peter. After the Ascension of the Lord, all three were baptized. Pancratius withdrew to a cave in Pontus, where the Apostle Peter found him and, in agreement with the Apostle Paul, appointed him bishop of Tavromena, in Sicily. There Saint Pancratius performed great miracles, destroyed idols, baptized the unbaptized and confirmed the baptized in the faith. Tavromena became a Christian city and Duke Aquilinus went with an army to destroy it. Saint Pancratius, with the clergy, went out of the city with a cross in his hand and the soldiers were confused and killed each other. The pagans stoned him to death. His relics are in Rome.
Hieromartyr Cyril, Bishop of Gortyn. Venerable Martyrs Patermutius and Koprius. Saint Theodore, Bishop of Edessa. Holy Martyrs of Glamoch and Kulenvakuf.
