Calendar for July 24 - Holy Great Martyr Efimia
On this day, the miracle-working of her relics, which was revealed at the IV Ecumenical Council, is celebrated. The reason for this Council was the heresy of Patriarch Diodorus and Archimandrite Eutychius that in the Lord there were not two natures, divine and human, but only one, divine. Since arguments could not resolve the dispute, Patriarch Anatolije of Constantinople proposed that both Orthodox and heretics write their confession of faith and place it in the coffin with the relics of St. Euphemia. After they had all spent three days in fasting and prayer, when they unsealed the coffin, they found an Orthodox confession in the right hand of St. Efimia, and a heretical one at her feet. Blood occasionally flowed from the relics of St. Euphemia, which helped the needy.
