
Calendar for July 28 - Holy Martyrs Kirik and Julita
Julita was of noble birth and lived in Iconia. The bride gave birth to a son, Kirik, whom she immediately baptized. When he was three years old, she taught him faith and prayer. During Diocletian's persecution of Christians, Julita and her son took refuge in Seleucia, but they were caught there and brought before the Judge. Julita boldly confessed Christ. The judge, in order to sway her, began to caress Kiriko, but the child began to scratch him with his hands and shouted: "I am a Christian too." The enraged judge slammed him to the ground and kicked him down the stone steps. The child gave his soul to God, whom the mother thanked for making her son worthy of a martyr's crown. And she, after much torture, was cut with a sword. They died in 304. Their relics are still miraculous today.
