Calendar for July 5 - Priest Martyr Jevsevije
Through his efforts, Meletius was elected patriarch of Antioch. When Julian the Apostate became emperor, Bishop Eusebius put on a military uniform and visited churches in Syria, Phoenicia and Palestine, establishing Orthodoxy and appointing priests, deacons, and in some places even bishops. When Julian died, on the advice of Eusebius, Patriarch Meletius convened a council in Antioch, at which Arius' heresy was again condemned. When Valens became emperor, Meletius and Eusebius were exiled. Emperor Gratian returned Meletius to Antioch and Eusebius to Samosata. When Eusebius came to the city of Dolihin to enthrone Bishop Marinus, some heretic hit him in the head with a tile. He died in Terrane in 379.
Holy martyrs Zinon and Zina. St. Peter's Day fast.
