Calendar for June 16 - Saint Demetrius
Dimitri Ivanovich was the legitimate son of the Russian Emperor Ivan the Terrible, without hereditary rights. He was killed in 1591 in Uglich, when he was eight years old, by order of the power-loving Boris Godunov. His death, as a result of a knife wound, was presented as an accident. After his death, he appeared to a monk and prophesied that a false Dimitrije would appear and cause the killer Boris Godunov's death, which happened. It was a time of great suffering for the Russian people. Countless miracles happened at the grave of the murdered Tsarević. The relics of Tsarević Dimitri, fifteen years after his death, were discovered whole and uncorrupted, solemnly transported to Moscow and buried in the Church of St. Michael the Archangel.
The holy martyr Lucilian and others with him. Martyr Lucian.
