Calendar for June 24 Saint Bartholomew and Barnabas
Saint Bartholomew was one of the twelve great apostles of Christ. After receiving the Holy Spirit in the form of tongues of fire, Saint Bartholomew was assigned to go to Syria and Asia Minor to preach the Gospel together with the holy apostle Philip. They both went there; now preaching together, now going apart to the cities, now meeting again, they used the net of teaching to catch people in the sea of the world for salvation.
While preaching the Gospel in Asia Minor, Saint Philip separated from Saint Bartholomew for a while and converted the wild and rebellious inhabitants of Lydia and Mysia to Christ. At that time, Saint Bartholomew, who was preaching Christ in neighboring cities, was ordered by the Lord to go to the aid of Saint Philip. Having come to him, Saint Bartholomew single-mindedly labored with him in apostolic labors and exploits. Philip was also followed by his sister, the virgin Mariamna, and together they all served the salvation of people. Passing through all the cities of Lydia and Mysia and preaching the gospel, they endured many temptations and troubles and beatings from the unbelievers; they were imprisoned and stoned. But in all these temptations and torments, by the grace of God, they remained alive, undertaking new labors in preaching the Gospel of Christ.
