Calendar for June 26 - Holy Martyr Aquilina
Born in Palestine. When she was 7 years old, she was fully initiated into the Christian life, and at 10 years old she preached Christ. During Diocletian's persecution, the governor Volusian ordered her to be flogged, and then to pierce her ears with a red-hot rod. When the brain and blood began to flow from her head, she fell as if dead, and was thrown into a garbage dump outside the city. There is the healing angel of God. Thanking God, she begged Him to complete the feat of martyrdom. The gate of the city opened by itself and it swung before the horrified Volusian who was in bed. The next day, she was taken to the funeral pyre where she surrendered her soul to God before the executioner lowered the sword to her neck. This holy virgin died for Christ in 293, when she was 12 years old.
Saint Trifilius, bishop of Lekkusia of Cyprus. Saint Anne and her son John.
