Calendar for June 7 - The third turning of the head of Saint John the Baptist
The venerable head of St. John the Baptist was hidden in a holy place many years ago. After an apparition to a priest, she was found in a silver casket. In the 8th century, at the time of the iconoclastic heresy, the head of St. John the Baptist was transferred to Komane, in Cappadocia, the place where St. John Chrysostom was exiled. But when iconoclasm was defeated, in the time of Emperor Michael and Patriarch Ignatius, in 850, the head of Saint John was transferred to Constantinople and laid there in the court imperial church. Venerable Theodore Studite gave a wonderful eulogy in honor of this third conversion of the venerable head of Saint John the Baptist. In all probability, the holy head of the Forerunner and Baptist of the Lord was also in his Studite monastery.
Holy Martyrs of Beer. Priest-Martyr Terapont, Bishop of Cyprus. Holy Martyrs Pasikrates, Valention, Julius and others.
