Calendar for June 8 - Holy Apostle Carp
One of the Seventy. A follower and companion of the apostle Paul, by whom he would be appointed bishop of Veria Thrace. But he also preached the Gospel in Crete, where he received Saint Dionysius the Areopagite into his home. Saint Dionysius testifies about him, that he was a man of unusually pure mind, meekness and non-maleficence; that the Lord Jesus Himself appeared to him with His angels in a vision, and that he never began the holy liturgy until he first had a heavenly vision. Having suffered many attacks for the name of Christ, he finally suffered from the unbelieving Jews, and was killed, moving his soul to the Kingdom of God, to eternally enjoy seeing the Lord in glory.
Holy Apostle Alphaeus. Venerable John Psychite. Holy New Martyr Alexander of Thessaloniki.
