Calendar for March 23 - Holy Martyr Codratus of Corinth - Theodore's Saturday
His mother, fleeing to the mountains before the persecution of the Christians, gave birth to him in the forest and soon died. Kondrat grew up alone, guarded, fed and guided by God's providence and guardian angel. When he was 12 years old, he went down to the city, where he was received by some good people and taught. He studied medicine. During the persecution of Christians under Emperor Decius, Kodratus was thrown into prison. There, having confessed Christ, five companions joined him: Cyprian, Dionysius, Anektus, Paul and Criskent. They were dragged through the streets to the dumping ground, beaten and pelted with stones on the way down. They were especially tormented by heathen children. They were cut with a sword in Corinth in 250 AD. In that place, a spring of water broke out, which is still called Kodrat's name today.
