Calendar for March 26 - Transfer of the relics of Saint Nicephorus of Constantinople
When Emperor Leo the Armenian spoke out against the icon, he was opposed by Patriarch Nicephorus of Constantinople, who distorted it. Because of this, the emperor exiled him to the island of Prokonis, where Saint Nicephorus had already built a monastery in honor of Saint Theodore. After 13 years, in 827, Patriarch Nicephorus passed away. When all the iconoclastic emperors died and when Michael sat on the imperial throne, with his mother Theodora, and Patriarch Methodius was restored to the patriarchal throne, in 846, they transferred the relics of Saint Nicephorus from Proconis to Constantinople, first to the church of Saint Sophia, from which for banished for the rest of his life, and then to the Church of the Holy Apostles. On the same day that he was exiled from Constantinople, after 19 years, his incorruptible relics were transferred to that city.
Holy Martyr Christina the Persian. Martyr Publius. Easter fast.
