Calendar for March 30 Saint Alexius, Man of God
During the time of Emperor Honorius, there lived in Rome a high imperial dignitary, Euthymian, rich and respected. He lived a godly life with his wife Aglais. They had an only son, Alexius. When they married him, he left his wife and parents and went to Edessa in Mesopotamia. There he lived as a beggar for 17 years. When word got out, he fled to Laodicea, but the ship was wrecked all the way to Rome. Alexius went to his father, who did not recognize him. There, in a riot, abused by servants, he lived another 17 years. He reposed in 411. Then a voice was heard in the Church of the Holy Apostles, in the presence of the emperor and the patriarch: "Seek the Man of God." And they found him, his face radiant, with a note in his hand, from which they saw that he was the son of Euthymian. Myrrh flowed from his body.
