Calendar for March 31 Saint Cyril of Jerusalem
Born in Jerusalem in 315, and elected Patriarch of Jerusalem in 350. He was dethroned three times and sent into exile. He had three great battles: with the Arians, with Emperor Julian the Apostate, and with the Jews. In his time, on the day of Pentecost, the sign of the cross, brighter than the sun, appeared, which stretched over Jerusalem and the Mount of Olives, and lasted for several hours. This sign greatly helped to strengthen Orthodoxy in the fight against the Arians. The second time, when Julian persuaded the Jews to rebuild Solomon's Temple, Saint Cyril prayed that this would not happen, and twice an earthquake occurred that destroyed everything that had been built. His catechesis has been preserved. He died peacefully in 386.
