Calendar for March 5 Saint Leo of Catania
He was a bishop in Catania, under the volcanic mountain Etna. A great zealot for the faith and a man of mercy towards the needy. At that time in Catania, a certain magician Heliodorus was bewitching the people with various tricks and corrupting the youth. Once, during the service of God, he entered the temple and began his sorcery. Saint Leo tied him to the end of the omophorion and took him to the city square. He ordered a great fire to be lit there, and when it was blazing, he stood in the middle of the fire and dragged Heliodorus into it. Saint Leo remained unharmed in the fire, while Heliodorus was completely burned up. All those who had been fooled by the magician and who saw something divine in him were ashamed, and Saint Leo became famous throughout the empire as a great miracle worker. He reposed in the Lord in the 8th century. Myrrh flowed from his relics.
Holy Hieromartyr Zadok.
