Calendar for May 12 Saint Vasilije Ostroški
Born in Popovo polje, in Herzegovina, from simple and pious parents. Filled with love for the Church of God since childhood, when he grew up he went to the Tvrdoš monastery where he received the monastic rank. He soon became known as a great ascetic. Against his will, he was elected bishop of Zahumski and Skenderija. He ruled in Tvrdos, from where he strengthened his flock in the Orthodox faith, protecting them from Turkish brutality and Latin cunning. When the Turks destroyed Tvrdoš, he moved to Župa near Nikšić and then to Ostrog, where he practiced strict fasting and persistent prayer. He peacefully rested in the Lord on April 29, 1671, in the 17th century, leaving his people whole, incorruptible relics, over which countless miracles have happened to this day.
The Holy Nine Martyrs of Kyziški. Venerable Memnon the Wonderworker.
