Calendar for May 12 Sveti Vasilije Ostroški Čudotvorac
A native of Popovo Polje, in Herzegovina, of simple and pious parents. From childhood filled with love for the Church of God, when he grew up he went to the Tvrdoš monastery where he received the monastic order. He soon became famous as a great ascetic. Against his will, he was elected bishop of Zahumlje and Skenderija. He served in Tvrdoš, from where he strengthened his flock in the Orthodox faith, protecting it from Turkish cruelty and Latin cunning. When the Turks ravaged Tvrdoš, he moved to Župa near Nikšić and then to Ostrog, where he practiced asceticism in strict fasting and persistent prayer. He peacefully reposed in the Lord on April 29, 1671, in the 17th century, leaving his people intact, incorruptible relics over which countless miracles have occurred to this day.
The Holy Nine Martyrs of Cyzicus. Venerable Memnon the Wonderworker.
