One of the Twelve, brother of John the Baptist. At the invitation of the Lord Jesus, he left his fishing nets and father Zebedee and followed him. He belongs to the three apostles to whom the Lord revealed the greatest secrets, before whom he was transfigured on Tabor and before whom he grieved in the Garden of Gethsemane. Preaching the Gospel, he went as far as Spain. When the Jews stopped arguing with him about the Holy Scriptures, being unable to do anything to him, they hired a certain magician Hergemon, but both he and his disciple Philip, hearing the Apostle's word, were baptized. Then the Jews persuaded one Josiah to slander him and accuse him to Herod. But Josiah is also baptized. Saint James was beheaded in the year 45, along with Josiah.
