Calendar for May 20 Appearance of the Holy Cross in Jerusalem- (Easter Ode)
During the reign of Emperor Constans, son of Saint Constantine, and Patriarch Cyril of Jerusalem, at about 9 o'clock in the morning, in the sky above Golgotha, stretching as far as the Mount of Olives, the Holy Cross appeared. It was brighter than the sun, and more beautiful than the most beautiful rainbow. The width of the Holy Cross was as much as its length. All the people in Jerusalem and the surrounding area, leaving their affairs, in fear and admiration, watched this heavenly sign. Then everyone rushed to church, glorifying the Lord Jesus Christ. Many unbelievers converted to the faith of Christ, and many Arian heretics returned to Orthodoxy. Patriarch Cyril wrote a letter about this sign to Emperor Constans, who himself was inclined to the heresy of Arius. This event occurred in the year 357.
